For the last year, I have repeatedly had this intuition about adding a Professional Development piece to my Adventures. If you know me, you know that I really value and trust my intuition. I kept getting the feeling that women are trying to assert themselves in the world differently. There is a demand for our presence, a new opportunity for us to step boldly into our feminine power. There is a necessity for our voices as women. This time is about the Feminine Rising!! I recently attended a conference in New York on Women and their Mastery. Here are some statistics about our collective:
- Twice as many women suffer from depression as men. Fewer than half of them will ever seek treatment.
- Women attempt suicide approximately twice as often as men.
- Approximately 91% of women are unhappy with their bodies.
- 10 million women in the US suffer from eating disorders.
- 1 in 8 women will develop breast cancer in her lifetime.
- Every 60 seconds, a woman in the US dies of heart disease.
- In the first 3 months of 2017, there were 168 bills aimed at restricting reproductive rights introduced at the state and federal levels. (This one makes my blood boil!)
Startling, I know! I’m not trying to be a Debbie Downer, however, I want to be in reality! This is reality! I see this over and over again. I have been an entrepreneur for over 15 years in holistic wellness. What I have learned personally, and seen in many, many of my female clients, is that self-care is put on the back burner. We usually take care of ourselves when we hit the wall and are sliding into the abyss.
If we are to step forward in our changing roles as women, self-care, as well as personal and professional development must be at the forefront of our awareness and actions. The world needs us to be our best selves!! Have you heard what the Dali Lama said? He stated, “The world will be saved by the Western woman! https://www.huffingtonpost.com/emily-bennington/western-women_b_2277916.html The last time I checked on the state of the world, there’s a lot for us to do!!!
While we can’t change the world on our own, this travel experience includes a community service project rooted in empowering the women in the culture/area we visit. You see ladies, this feminine power is a global thing!
Back to my intuition…
I joined the Foxboro Rotary almost 2 years ago and met Karen Benz, a strategic leadership coach, and professor at Roger Williams University. I felt an instant connection to her; just good people!! I sat on it for a bit; got to know Karen and see her in action, experienced first-hand her work and knew it was right. I asked if we could meet for lunch. I had something I wanted to discuss with her. I told her what I was feeling; she loved the idea and SHEE Travel was born! SHEE – Self-Care, Health, Enrichment & Excellence. Travel with a twist! Travel that encompasses mind, body, heart, soul, and spirit.
Women come alive in connection and collaboration with one another. This trip will provide both! A safe, nurturing environment where you can express, be seen, heard and valued. Not only will we be in the land of Greek Goddesses surrounded by beauty and adventure, but we will also be teaching and learning from one another. We will visit Athens and the islands of Crete and Santorini. Each day we will be doing yoga and meditation, coming together in circle to discuss topics of interest, both personal and professional and participate in Mastermind Sessions. I hope you’ll consider putting yourSELF first and coming to Greece with us for this life-changing, revolutionary travel experience!! Come for an extended week of sisterhood, growth, and connection. OPA!!
