A Healing Journey

Heavens is all I can say! We are in some WILD times. Mother Earth is clearing out lots of old energies, and not very quietly. So much chaos and devastation around us and within us. My heart goes out to all the people affected by the hurricanes, fires, and earthquakes. Every energy holds a polarity. There is lots of opportunity here to rebuild things, including ourselves, differently.

I feel like we are being asked to take a long, hard look at ourselves, our priorities, our relationships, what we value in society, culture and within. Where’s your connection to your heart in all of this? Do you feel like you have lost it somewhere along the way?

A Pooch Named Bubba, a Broken Heart, a Yoga Community

Looking down at docile bulldogHoly crap, last week was tough! My son, Kevin, rescued Bubba, an 85 lb. bulldog mix about 2 years ago.  This guy was the sweetest dog; happy, talkative, soulful and loving. Bubba was my first grandchild; OH how I loved this boy. Bubba became ill at the beginning of August; a trip to the vet reassured us he had severe allergies and Kennel Cough. We administered his daily dose of Claritin and 10 days of antibiotics. Bubba wasn’t rebounding. He couldn’t bark, eat his dry food, and was very lethargic. I began cooking soft foods for him. If you know me, any excuse to cook and feed someone is part of my passion and purpose!

Kevin brought Bubba back to the vet last Tuesday. Bubba never did well at the vet and had to be sedated to be examined. A small dose of sedation was administered due to Bubba’s condition.  About an hour later, Kevin received a phone call. Bubba became anxious being examined, stopped breathing and was dead. Kevin was beyond emotional, in shock, despair, and disbelief. I left my meeting to be with him. We shed our gut-wrenching tears, trying to make sense out of what had happened; to no avail. Read more

Self-Care Made Simple and Easy: Do 1 of these 5 things NOW!!

One of the best things any of us can do is take better care of ourselves.  In our crazy, hectic, fast-paced life, it can become challenging to take the time to properly care for ourselves in mind, body, and spirit.  Learn to make self-care a priority.  When you are full, everyone in your life benefits.  Here are my 5 simple and easy go to’s when I need relief:

1. Guided Meditation Women Meditation with Headphones

Lock yourself up and away from the world.  Put your earplugs in and go on a journey.   Guaranteed to make you feel more relaxed and refreshed to tackle what’s next.

2. Deep Breathing

Yep, that simple.  Sit up nice and straight in your chair.  Close your eyes, place one hand over your belly and one hand over your heart.  Take some long, deep, slow breaths in and out through your nose – about 3 minutes of this will completely reset your nervous system.  You will feel both calm and energized!

3. Take a WalkCloseup of female legs walking on a trail

Get out and take a brisk 10-minute walk. Take in the nature around you, feel the air, swing your arms.  The outdoors will leave you feeling refreshed and grounded.

4. Take a Bathwomen relaxing in bath

A hot bath with some sea salt or Epsom salts, 5-10 drops of lavender oil to relax you…….. light a candle…………instant luxury!!

5.DanceWomen Dancing in Living room

Blast your favorite song and dance like a maniac…….I love this one!!!  Dancing completely releases tension and you will feel so free after you bust a move!!

I’m not asking you to find hours………try just a few minutes a day to begin.   You’ll get the hang of it, crave more and in short order will feel how much of a difference it makes.  Here’s to your self-care!
